Employers urged to invest in employees’ development

An expert in human resources, Chris Enuke has urged employers to invest in the well being of their employees as they are the major capital that a business needs to flourish.

He said this at the launch of his new book, “The Practice of Human Resource Management With Examples from Nigeria”.

Enuke, who is one of the pioneer students of the University College Ibadan, studied Pure Mathematics and Geography in 1953, has worked as a teacher and a resource manager in different firms.

The Practice of Human Resource Management with examples from Nigeria presents a forty-year synthesis of Chris Enuka’s contribution to the world of work.

He said that the new generation of employees is not as equipped as the past generation, blaming deterioration in the educational sector, which makes it necessary for business owners to train and retrain their employees.

He said the book will serve as a guide to not just Human Resource Personnel but also to business and potential business owners in managing the affairs of their workers.

A former President of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management and former Chairman of Unilever, Dr. M.O. Omolayole, who chaired the occasion, highlighted the importance of imbibing the reading and research culture by both employers and employers, saying it is the only means of keeping up with trends and new ideas in businesses.
